quick flower craft:

11

August 31, 2011

So this is really old but I forgot I had these pics! These were some behind the scene pictures for our photo workshop. Ruby came over to my place and since we are getting the carpet's replaced soon, I said they could just make a mess all over because it won't matter soon! So Ruby made the name tags, Linda cut out programs and tied up the gift packs, and I took the girls on a little walk. I gave them little leftover containers I had from succulents and we went flower picking!

or as True so cleverly named it, "flower trick or treating" ;)

Soul got a hold of the stamp pad (actually captured it in that first photo)
and her fingers were covered in blue!

So we got back and then decorated the little flower pots. We used washi tape, streamers, lace, colored pens - it was a lot of fun!

Ruby's girls are just so precious. Sometimes when I am around Ruby and her girls, I'm think, "I really want kids!!" but then when I talk to Nick, I come back to reality and realize I am really not ready. But is anyone ever really ready to have kids? Plus Ruby is like a super-human-mom and manages it all, it's inspiring.

The sales have been so fun, I've decided to do a pop-up shop September sale! Go to the eventbrite page to RSVP and get all the info. It's Saturday, September 24th - from 9:00-1:00. I'll be solo this time, no other vintage friends will be at this sale :/ But it'll still be fun, promise!

The first 50 rsvp's will receive a little gift from me. Actually, if you've come to any of the sales in the past, just tell me which one if you come & you'll get a gift too!

There will be lots of (new/old) vintage goodies, tons of $1/$3 stuff, and oh hello friend goods! The set up will actually be like a real shop too, so it'll be good stuff :) Hope to see you there!

guest post - top 5 diy projects:

11

Today's guest post comes from B for Bel, who submitted her top five favorite diy projects! Enjoy, and happy friday!

--

It seems to be a rising trend now for people to build everything inside their homes. I am starting to realize that just about everything can be saved and re-used into something else. Pretty soon, we are all going to start constructing our own houses of straw, sticks and bricks!

I am loving this creative movement and I hope that it is here to stay. It brings a much more sentimental quality to people's homes and also, perfect ice breakers if you're an awkward guest :) Here are some of my favorite DIY items of the week.

1. DIY Lightbulb Vases
I saw these a couple of months back and am still gaping at them despite having looked at them a million times consecutively. Where do I even start? Oh, the simplicity, the creativity, the brilliance!

One of my favourite DIY projects of all time. I dare say the replica is even better (to me) than the original!!! I love how there's a fun mixture of colours and patterns, making it stand out even more.

3. Of The Meadow Yard Stakes Vase
Not exactly a DIY project since these are selling for $68 at BEHLDN, but I think it's simple enough to replicate. It can really bring a rustic, back-to-nature quality to the home if done well.

4. DIY: Mini Doily-print Bowl
The beauty of this project is in its absolute simplicity. I know, I know, I already said that about the others, but this one just takes the cake. Inexpensive, beyond easy and looks a million bucks.

5. Hammered Spoon Place Card
Your guests are going to remember you for life for this. At least I would. Beautiful and intricate, this is the most creative place card I have seen thus far. The leaf ribbon on it is just the perfect finishing touch to a fancy, sentimental get-together.

Yellow Week:

August 25, 2011

Guess what I thought of while I was at Creative Conference for Entrepreneurs! Having a whole entire week dedicated to: yellow! Well, you do know I am simply obsessed with this color. So I thought, why not have a week of it. At these sort of conferences, they really get you inspired and pumped up with new ideas. I think many of you like yellow! If you aren't a fan, I am determined to get you to love it ;)

So anyway. You are probably wondering what will yellow week consist of. Well, there will be a yellow (online) pop-up shop, lots of yellow inspiration, deals, diy, and lots more! You won't want to miss yellow week, so be sure and join us on September 19th for lots of yellow fun.

(ps: if you want to see something specific or have any ideas for features for yellow week, let me know! Definitely open to taking suggestions!)

guest post - betsy & iya:

4

Received this submission from Modish and I love seeing store fronts and how people display their items so I had to share. Also love that this couple gets to work together, and they live in Portland - 2 things I would love to do! Be sure to read the advice at the end of this article too, I so appreciated it .. I tend to be a big chicken when it comes to taking risks but how can we get anywhere if we don't just go for it, right? :) Enjoy!

Betsy & Iya is run by Betsy, and her husband Will- they just moved from a 289sf box to this beautiful new shop in a vibrant NW Portland neighborhood. It's an old cinema building that is full of charm and character, with brick and huge windows that let the light pour in. When Betsy saw it was for lease, her heart jumped and they made the quick decision to just go for it and branch out from just jewelry, into a full boutique! She and Will spent weeks repainting and remodeling the space into what you see now- and Will built all the cool shelving and rope structures you see!

Beyond just her signature style jewelry, she's brought in a range of clothing and lifestyle goods from other indie designers she admires, that she discovered at craft shows or on her crazy cross-country roadtrips. She says, "I'm stocking only independent artists and designers who make a refined product that I find beautiful in some way...every piece in my shop speaks to me, and because of that, there's a cohesion, a unique perspective, one that you'll only find here." There's gorgeous hand-painted blouses, locally made dresses and tees, leather pouches, art and letterpress cards, candles and perfume, shaving supplies for the guys- she even just added a great new lingerie section!
The boutique is upfront and Betsy and her assistants still hand-make all the Betsy & Iya jewelry in the little mint green studio in the back of the shop. Having started this business nearly four years ago, their story is proof of how hard-work and determination really do pay off. Betsy says her secret to success is to follow her gut and just JUMP- especially if it terrifies you. You have to get out there and make it happen!
Really loved seeing Nan Lawson's work at this shop too, go Nan!
