shop progress:

January 29, 2013

I think at the house update, someone commented they wanted to see an update of the shop progress. So here are some pics I've been snapping over the past couple weeks. We'll have an official post of shop pics once the shop is all done (going to be shot by Kimberly Genevieve, she is so good!) for those of you who aren't in the area but are curious to see how it looks :)

Nick has been building a lot, it is so cool to see him go at it with such ambition! He's got some serious DIY skills - I never would have thought "we could make that" before, but now I'm like, "hey, you can make this!" ;) This is all pretty surreal, the fact that we're really doing it. We're really opening a shop! We've been thinking about it for so long and it happened pretty fast but it definitely feels like the opportunity opened up for us and it was the next thing to do for our brand. We're blessed. I'm so excited for you guys to see the shop during the opening this weekend. Thanks for your response & support. Can't believe it's just a couple days away!

We're almost ready..

Book of Notes Kit:

January 21, 2013

If you don't know what a book of notes is, click here :) It all started with this book I made my husband many years ago. I haven't made one in a little while but am thinking I need to do one. Have a couple ideas for book of notes this year - giveaways, swaps. Stay tuned!

Anyway, a couple months ago I had a few requests from readers for a book of notes kit. I thought it was a great idea and it was so fun putting some little kits together knowing people would be making their own notes for friends/loved ones.

I included all the elements I've in my books - note capsules, animal paper clips, wood tags, scratch-stickers for secret messages, & loads of envelopes and papers. and here's how it's all packaged up!

I put together a few kits and still have some left, they are available here in the shop. If you have someone you'd like to make a book of notes for, you should! They make for really thoughtful and sweet gifts :)

Shoes. I have to say, I think shoes are definitely my favorite accessory. Over jewelry, purses, scarves, watches. I don't know what it is about them! I mean, they go on our feet. They are just so cute. I wanted to take some photos of some of my vintage favorites. If anyone wants to do a shoe trade, I'm a size 5.5-6 ;)

It was hard to photograph the shoes with my camera so I just used my phone afterward and edited the photos in instagram. It's so tempting to not just throw my camera out and use instagram for all photo taking and editing, it's just so much faster + easier!
So do you have any special plans for the weekend? Nick and i? Well we're scramming trying to get the shop open. We think we may have a date... so stay tuned! You can see a few photos we've been posting of our progress at instagram, under #ohfshop :) Will be posting a blog update next week too. Have a fantastic weekend sweet friends! Thanks for all your comments this week, hope you enjoyed all the posts. xo.

Collection / Shop Displays:

January 17, 2013

Well as you know, we are opening a shop! We have tons of displays but it's been getting a little overwhelming on how to display everything, so naturally I went looking for some shop-display inspiration! Display is kind of a big deal. I really love it because it's so fun to display things but it does make a huge impact on your product too. I'll always remember when I first started selling vinyl decals  at craft shows, no one bought any of them! Then my mom suggested I put a couple on a board or something to demonstrate how they look. and sure enough, they've totally sold ever since!

Anyway, who else loves displays? Here's what I found for this collection of shop set-ups and displays. I don't know if I'm just drawn to them or if they're used in a lot of stores but most of these photos seem to have tons of cubby/shelves! It just looks so good! Getting pretty anxious and excited about how our shop will turn out!

flea market:

January 16, 2013

Been taking a couple trips to the flea market lately for displays for our shop. Did I mention here in Southern California there is one held EVERY weekend? They're put on by different groups in different cities and it just so happens it's one every weekend, pretty cool. We're really fortunate to have them so close & so often! Love visiting the market, it is so fun finding and searching for treasures.

Funny story - Nick has been having some dreams lately where he's at an antique market and finds a bunch of old vintage video games for like, a dollar or something. I told him it's pretty hilarious he is dreaming about finding good antique deals ;)

Do you have markets in your area? If you live in or are new to SOCAL, last year I posted a list of markets here in case you're not sure where to go! If you're not in California, I'd try googling antique markets / thrift stores  / antique malls in your area! <3 happy thrifting!
