ReplyDeleteWe used to watch the Wizard of Oz on VHS and my Dad would mimic the "The Lollipop Guild" munchkin song. It was awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of Christmas(es) is spending most every one with my mother's side of the family. I was raised in a Jewish household but my mother had been Christian before she married my father. Her brother and his family allowed us to join in the warmth and joy of that special day with those we love.

My favorite Christmas tradition is the midnight Christmas eve service. It's so peaceful and serene and reminds us of the reason we have something to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteWhen my children were small, we made several things on Christmas Eve of 1999 to celebrate the millenium New Year.
ReplyDeleteFirst, we made time capsules that they cannot open until 2025. They painted and decorated oval papier mache shaker boxes and put in the following items:a questionnaire I helped them fill out asking about all their favorite things. We added in pictures they drew, current photographs, a message they wanted to write to their "adult" selves, and one small toy or trinket for each. We then sealed the boxes with tape and they are currently on display in my study. They are curious, but have never tried to open them yet!
We also used bakeable glass paint and allowed them to decorate champagne flutes to keep and use each New Year's eve (for an apple cider toast until they are adults).
Such fun! My wonderful children are all almost fully grown now, but they still use those adorable glasses each year and love to compare their childhood artistic skills (as well as critique each other's!).
One of my favourite Christmas traditions is waking up bright and early Christmas day, spending the morning with my family, then having a big brunch with my extended family. It's love that matters most on such a special day when we celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus.
