Happy Friday sweet friends! Does anyone have any valentine weekend plans? Nick and I are spending the weekend with my brother, as he recovers from surgery. He tore his ACL playing basketball a few months ago and is having surgery today. Anyone know someone who has been through this? I hear the recovery time to walk is months! Anyway, I think he'll be in bed for the most part but it'll be nice to be there for him. Well, I'd love to hear if you have any exciting plans and live vicariously through you since we're not doing anything this year. ;) Have a most wonderful weekend!

21 hello's:

  1. I had the same injury playing soccer in High School. I was about a month on crutches post-op, mixed in with lots of rehab. However, I had some other injuries on top of the ACL (MCL and meniscus). I was up and about within a day or so, but could not put weight on the knee for four weeks. If he tore only his ACL and has been walking on it since his injury (I could not due to meniscus damage), his recovery time could be much faster. My friend, who also tore her ACL, was walking within a week or so. You two are so good to stay with him :) He will appreciate the help, I'm sure!

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother! Good thing he has you guys to visit and keep him company. Hopefully he also has some really good books and an ipad so he can play Angry Birds and get to Netflix Watch Instantly? hahaha :) Sending him some good thoughts for a quick recovery...

We're staying busy with shoots, weddings, meetings with clients and visits from friends. Lots of general goodness. Have a lovely weekend!

  3. How sweet of you to spend your Valentine's day with your brother. I Love that! My valentine's day is a little more on the traditional side, but full of Love all the same. I predict a chocolate coma in there somewhere.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I tore both of my ACLs playing basketball too. The first one was worse, with MCL and miniscus damage as well, but I found that I could walk within one to two weeks. Especially if he begins physical therapy soon after surgery. The first day or two was a little rough, but nothing that can't be handled. He's very lucky to have you guys!

  6. I had a good friend have this surgery a few months back. She was on crutches with a knee brace for a few weeks and then walking around without them within a month I think.

  7. I tore my ACL and had surgery on it. Was only a few weeks before I could walk, but with a brace. Takes at least several months of physical therapy to get the knee back to where it was before though (and it's never quite the same, but no biggie). Good luck on his recovery.

  8. Aww, so sorry to hear that about your brother! I've had friends that that has happened to, though I don't know the specifics. But he'll be fine :) especially with such an awesome sister & brother-in-law to hang out with him & keep him company!
Mardy and I aren't doing anything this weekend either - I guess our Valentine's plans was our Cancun trip (a week early), so it'll actually be really nice to bum around and get everything back into order and stuff :)
Have a wonderful weekend yourself, Danni! :)

  12. Danni-girl! Sorry to hear about your brother's ACL. Jon and I will be praying for his recovery. It's good to know that he has a loving sister and brother -in-law to serve and care for him!

Jon and I kind of pretty much think that V-day is a little overrated. Wonderful, absolutely, but sometimes people put too much concentration on it and forget to "love" well the rest of the year. Anyhow, we love taking out a single friend and treating them to dinner and a movie or making it a double or triple date night with friends.

  15. I tore my ACL and had reconstruction!!! I feel your brother's pain...I still remember vividly the first Sunday after my surgery, my whole family was at church and I was stuck in bed with my crutches by my bed for emergency, because at this point i couldnt even get in and out of bed by myself. I hadnt eaten all and was starving and my sister had left a huge back of animal cookies on my desk across my room!! i tried extending my crutches as long as they could get to use them like clamps. it didnt work and i had to wait hours till someone came home.

  17. Oh Danni, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. It'll take time but he'll heal. My little brother had Tommy John's surgery a few years back and had both knees opened to get the piece they needed for his elbow. It took time, but he made a full recovery. Have fun and enjoy time with your loved ones! (They're all that really matters, right?)
