reminisce / my engagement ring:

so if you're a recent reader to the blog, on november 6, my sweet bf and i got engaged! thank you to everyone who shared in our joys and celebration from the story! and friends who congratulated us at craft shows over the past couple months, it is so special to be able to share it with you.

anyway, i wanted to share my special engagement ring with you today... and really kind of just brag about my fiancee for a second ;) i found this piece of paper on my floor, and when i opened it up i realized that it was a schedule for the day he proposed, broken down minute by minute. i'll admit: i teared up a little and it made me realize just how much work he put into it and how blessed i am to have someone who cares for me so much.

here's the schedule i found:

and i went a little crazy on the pictures of the ring he made out of a block of wood. all he used was a hand saw and a some sandpaper (in the picture above, with the wood block too) he said there was sawdust all over his apartment... when he showed me the block of wood that he started with, all i could think was.. wow, that's legit! hehe.

the block is the 'back up' piece he made just in case he had to start over.. so yea, he started with that wood block and sanded and sanded and sanded until he came up with the ring you see next to the block. he also told me he just guessed on the drill bit size and drilled! it fit my finger perfectly so it was definitely meant to be! he even somehow managed to carve little hearts on the side.


i wore it for a month but we were both afraid it would break esp.. then for christmas, he surprised me with these beautiful rose rings he picked out on etsy! i love them.. and i feel like they're symbolic in a way... the 2 roses represent him and i and the 1 rose represents Christ! when i mentioned it to him he said he thought the exact same thing! so i am just wearing the 2 roses ring and i think the 1 rose will just be my wedding ring. :)

happy tuesday! well my weekend was good. i really loved the rain..and it rained quite a bit. i would say southern california really doesn't get enough rain in my opinion. ;) i had a lovely craft show on saturday, where i met lots of talented ladies and made new friends. i also celebrated my little brother's 5th birthday, we went to sushi. yum! nick and i saw slumdog millionare. good movie.

so i got moved this big bulletin board into my room.. it currently sits here blank. i decided to look for some posters and prints which will follow in the next post. the above image is where i used to have my desk, then i moved it on the other side and left all the papers there. so now i can start fresh!

reminisce / book of notes:

This week while I am away in London, I thought it'd be fun to go through some very old blog posts and repost them here again! For any newer readers, maybe you missed these. For any readers who have been reading this blog since this time and remember these - thank you for sticking with the blog all these years! This post was my very first & original 'book of notes' that I shared about a little note-book card I made for my (at the time boyfriend) Nick. It actually got linked on a couple other blogs and I received a 1000 hits the day I posted this. (going from maybe 20 hits a day, heh) Pretty cool ;) This post was originally posted on February 3, 2009.

last week, nick had a super tough work week. he was working overtime, till about midnight every night! so i decided to make him a little book of encouraging notes to get him through the day. there were about 8-9 notes in the book. the first page even has a little 'capsule' note, that you can open and it had a note inside, my personal favorite ;)

anyway, i've always been fascinated with the book, "the jolly postman" by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. did anyone ever read this when they were younger? if you didn't read it, buy it now! it is simply delightful. if you have kids, get it for them immediately! they will love it. and love you for it! the story is so clever, and there is something so neat about opening up all the little letters as you go along the story. they also created "the jolly christmas postman" and "the jolly pocket postman" and they are all just as cool. i had lost my books from i was young so my little brother re-bought them for me a couple christmas's ago. i would love to just have endless books of envelopes notes to read all the time!

so this is my book of notes for nicholas. it was so much fun to make. and i think he really enjoyed it. he said it helped him get through the day.
