out with the flu:

June 17, 2009

hello dears. apologies for not posting yesterday. i woke up with a slight sore throat that just got worse as the day went on. by the end of the day, it burned to swallow and talk! anyway, i just dread sore throats. does anyone have any good remedies? i am hoping to get into the doctor today and i am hoping even more it is not strep! how ironic because i was just talking to someone about getting sick and in my opinion, the worst thing to get is sore throats!

so all that said, i probably won't be finishing this week's posts :( i have to work 8 hours on friday (apple iphone 3gs launch - are you getting one?) so i really need to get better. i'll miss you all and see you next week. don't forget to enter the bliss in a tea cup giveaway! :)

37 hello's:

  1. feel better! I had a summer virus a few weeks ago and it took me out for about 3 days! Hopefully your recovery is quicker than mine.

  2. I hope you feel better soon! I was sick a lot this spring and someone suggested taking the herb Echinacea. It worked wonders and gives your immune system a boost. Get some rest! We'll be here when you come back :)

  3. mix honey, cayenne, and garlic and let it slide down your throat. it burns so good.

  4. heat up a little honey, mix it with lemon, and take it by a spoonful. It will coat your throat! {Also, hot toddys work wonders! ;)}

  5. I agree that sore throats are the worst, you just can't reach them. And, the air just feels so evil and no amount of scarf covering seems to be enough.

But, I hope you get well soon so you will be ready for the launch :)

  6. Sorry to hear (read) that you're under the weather! Hope you feel better soon :) ...goodness, your site is just beautiful! How did you make it so that the links and everything on the side were in two rows instead of one? Did you find a tempalte somewhere or make it yourself? I'm trying to change mine up a bit but haven't had any luck yet :/

  8. You poor thing! This has always made my throat feel better: warm water and salt to gargle with. I don't know how it works but it does! Then in the evening: hot water, lemon, honey, ginger and sometimes a splash of brandy......yum

    Feel better!

  9. Oh no, I hate sore throats! I've actually had a mild one the past day or two and am really hoping it doesn't get any worse! Honey for sure always helps me, honey and lemon in my tea. Yum!

Thanks again for hosting a giveaway from our store (you make everything look so lovely!), and thanks Melisa for reminding me that I hadn't relisted the Embroidery Hoop chalkboard - bow edition!

  11. After years with sore throats and then having a tonsilectomy, my best remedy is to take bags of frozen peas and put one on each side of your neck. It helps to shrink your glands which cause the throat soreness. It sounds bonkers, but it REALLY works. Good luck! feel better :)

  17. Ugh, hope you feel better soon.

The honey remedies are pretty good. Personally I also like "theraflu" and sucking on cough drops.

Eating a few mushy meals (like mashed potatoes) with lots of garlic and onion will help kill bacteria. Which you can then replace by eating some plain, active culture yogurt.

And sometimes I make a really strong cup of chamomile tea with lots of honey in it and sip it until I fall asleep . . . course my husband is asleep way before because just the fumes of chamomile knock him right out.

  18. Gargle with hot water and lots of salt. Tastes foul, but kills the bacteria. And rest up.

  30. I had a horrible flu a few years ago and my sweet grandmother came to take car of me. I couldn't get out of bed to even care for my own children!

Guess what she gave me to drink that really changed my energy level? Hot water with the juice from half a lemon and 2 spoonfuls of honey. Keep a slice of lemon in the water when heating the water.

    Hope you feel better, friend!

  31. I almost said "here's some chicken soup wishes" and then I thought I'd share a funny story about bringing a friend sickie soup:
At Biola we had only a few hours a week where opposite gender could visit the other's floor. Once my guy friend was sick so I told him I'd be bringing him soup that night during open house. He forgot. Left his door open. Just got out of the shower. I saw it all. I said I didn't. Delivered soup. Got the you-know-what out of there!
