diy with Brittni:

December 10, 2010

Hi all! Brittni here from handmade style blog, papernstitch. Is it just me or has this year suddenly flown by? The holidays are right around the corner. And I am frantically rushing to get some festive diy projects completed before the year is over.

These are my picks for holiday decor projects.
I hope to tackle a few of them myself.

Have fun with felt! One of my favorite craft supplies for projects is felt because it comes in so many colors and thicknesses. The possibilities are practically endless. And I always, always have some lying around the house. So these two projects are at the top of my project list: an adorable felt shingle tree and these felt pine cones. Both are easy to make and require minimal supplies. And both would look great on a fireplace mantle as well. Bonus: The felt pine cones make great gifts. Throw a little string on the end, and they become a super cute holiday ornament.

Snowflakes are the perfect winter decoration, no matter what holiday you celebrate. And if you're attempting to stay organized this time of year (like me), this snowflake cork board on Design Sponge is a great solution. Keep holiday cards, family photos, and wish lists on the coolest cork board around.

Of course, no holiday project roundup would be complete without a few wreaths rounding things out. And these two are currently the front runners for my front door: a purple leaves wreath and this yarn ball ornament wreath. They're both unique in their own way, which is a plus (of course), but each represents a slightly different style. The purple leaves wreath from Twig and Thistle feels a bit more traditional. While the yarn ball wreath from Life Through the Lens is a bit more funky and fun. Hmmm... What to choose. What to choose.

What holiday projects are you planning for the season?

6 hello's:

  1. Do you have the link to how to make the felt pine cones? I clicked on the link but there were no instructions on how to make my own. Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi Brittni. Nice to see you on Oh, Hello Friend. Quick question for you: where do you buy your felt? Craft stores have such a limited supply of colors.

  4. Awesome post! Here in our Anthropologie shop in San Francisco we have those felt pinecones hanging from faux cuckoo clocks. They look so cute with fingerknit garlands! I am making felt balls from scratch, from colored wool roving, and then stringing the colorful felt balls into a garland for the tree.

  6. Jen. How funny. We have a project going up on papernstitch today on how to make a very similar project to what your describing (with the string felt balls garland). How cool.
