Happy Friday:

April 13, 2012

I am so glad that it's Friday. I'll be honest, this week has been hard. I hardly saw my husband this week due to working overtime (getting home at 1am, even 2am), selling all week with college kids stealing more than usual (which I know is just a part of business but it still really bums me out), putting in a couple offers for houses and getting nowhere (haven't mentioned it yet but Nick & i are looking for a house..it's tough!), some discouraging blog comments, and finishing up our taxes (yuck!)

All that to say, it's been a hard week. I'm tired. My heart is heavy and I am just feeling the weight of everything going on. Also getting some blogger burn-out. But right now I just want to live out love in my life. It's hard to love when people are mean. and critical. I want to have peace and not worry about things that are out of my control.

Apologies for the debbie-downer post and being a big complainer right now. It was just one of those weeks, you know what I mean? I think we may all have them from time to time.. I know things could be worse and really are for some people out there. I do have more to be thankful for than complain about. Though we've had a rough week, we found strength through the midst of it. Love and patience got us through. So for any others out there who have had just a crappy week - you're not alone, the week is over so we can look forward to a new one. and may you take comfort in the fact that things will get better.

I am excited for the weekend! Excited to spend quality time with my husband. Excited that his deadline is over (no more late nights), excited for the house that is waiting for us, excited for a new week to come.

I hope you enjoy your weekend as much as I know I'll enjoy mine ;)
Thanks for reading friends.

PS: Hope to see you at our vintage sale in Orange County tomorrow!

47 hello's:

  1. Aww, so sorry you had to del with theft and mean comments. People who make mean comments...well, I just feel bad for them. It must be awful to be so miserable that you have to online criticize someone!
I hope things are better for you next week :).

  2. I really can't imagine that anyone would ever leave a negative comment on your blog! If it weren't for this post I would probably never tell you this but I found your blog this week via Pinterest and it totally awakened my spirit ... so many inspiring and creative things you're doing, I very much love your blog.

When my husband and I were house hunting I would watch HGTV house hunters obsessively every night .. not that I recommend that maniac behavior, but I'm sure you have a coping mechanism... it's emotional and exhausting! Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Don't ever apologize for saying what you're feeling, because there is always someone who is feeling the same way. And right now, that someone is me. Thank you for reminding me that we all go through rough times and that many things that affect us are (unfortunately) out of our control, and that you just have to be strong and wait it out. THANK YOU.

  10. I just wanted to say that I found your blog this week thru pinterest and I have gotten so much motivation to get some of my projects done and maybe even start a few that I've seen on your website. Both me and my sister have had the crummiest of weeks....just horrible....but I did love finding your site and diving off into some of your posts! I hope you can make your way out of your blogger burn-out and I will be checking in often to see more of your work. I wish I could be at your vintage sale, but being in TN would make that a LOOOOONG trip. Keep your head up and don't pay any attention to the Negative Nancys out there!

  13. Danni:
    Dandy blogger,
    Astounding crafter,
    Nifty dresser,
    Non-ugly* lady,
    Imaginative creator.

By non-ugly, I am of course referencing Joey Tribbiani from FRIENDS, "Wanted: Roommate. Non-smoker. Non-ugly." And by non-ugly, I mean stunning. And I also discovered that positive words beginning with an 'N' are elusive to find.

In other words, I wish compliments would flow as freely as critiques, because you deserve nothing but encouragement. You are an inspiration and an exceptionally talented crafter, and a genuinely GOOD person to boot. Beyond critiques letting you know that you have become somebody - bc only somebodies garner enough attention to generate a plethora and wide range of opinions from others about themselves - they should be thrown in the trash. Personally, I would like to personally high-five them. In the face. With my fist. But, you know, that wouldn't do much given my weakness and poor aim. But anyway: {YOU ARE AMAZING} and nothing but. Don't let anyone EVER tell you otherwise and seep into your thought process - it's poison.

p.s. Thanks for being the lovely, endearing YOU. xo

  14. I can sympathize with the house hunting woes. I just placed my SIXTH offer on a house (fingers crossed). that was after numerous rejections, some multiple offer scenarios, and even a seller who raised the asking price as a "counter-offer". good times! Hope you have an awesome weekend!

  15. I do hope your weekend reenergizes you! We all have those weeks, and just getting away from it all always helps me. Be kind to yourself and give yourself a few hours to not think about any of this!

  16. Darling girl, take heart! Everyone's allowed to feel heavy sometimes. Sorry for your recent downers. But I know that you'll find something beautiful soon that will pick you up and put you back on track. I'll say a special prayer for you tonight that you're rejuvenated and find things to rejoice about, whether they're huge or tiny. xoxo

  20. I have read your blog for some time and not left comments and am sure I am part of a majority who love your blog but are not sure what to add as a comment. I am so sad to hear about negative comments. I think it is part of human nature to concentrate on nasty things that are said to us, even if they are outnumbered by much more positive things. I sincerely hope you take heart from the many many more people who love your blog and read with interest and enthusiasm!

  21. I've had a bad week too! A fog of rubbishness has clouded me. I'd just like to say you have inspired me day in day out and despite my fog, thanks to you, I started my first blog the other day! :)
I hope your weekend and coming week is better! I saw a quote the other day that I'm going to remember and try to live my life by....
"Remember to wear your invisible Crown!"

  22. Leaving rude comments have become sport these days. Sad but true. May I suggest removing the ability for people to comment entirely? I did on my blog. When rude comments start to affect you personally, it's time to either stop reading them or not to allow the ability to comment at all.

  23. I really appreciate your honesty. I get annoyed by "life is Perfect All The Time!" blogs. You rock. And p.s. you are loved.

  24. You are a peach. Have a stupidly great weekend!!

  25. it sucks that you've had such a blah week. As a recent grad looking for work, I understand the frustration with not knowing the future. Some words I've found helpful come from an old song: "all of my ambitions, hopes and plans, I surrender these into your hands." he's begun a good work and he's faithful to complete it in you and your life. take heart!

  28. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4 :6-7

  30. Danni, I am a regular reader of your blog in New Zealand. I am sorry to hear you have a rough week. I am having a bad one this week too, a very nasty cold that has been keeping me away from my craft. I make craft to sell at the Arts & Craft Market on every Saturday. So, yesterday, there was no income and felt very down. Worse part, I am still nursing my bad cold. So much things are weighing on my mind, but I chose not to think about them and let each day passes by. Chin up and you'll be fine. I love your reading every single post of yours here. keep up the good work. Take care.

  32. I'm sorry you're feeling down and are having a difficult week.

Remember there are a lot of people who love your blog (including me). Please don't take the mean comments to heart.

    Take care.

  33. I'm sorry your week has been tough. I no longer have garage sales because I'd all the stealing .
Regarding negative comments...well, you need to let it roll off your back.
People find it easy to be mean when they are not dealing directly with a person. If you are burning out on the Blog stuff...maybe a small break would help.

Please know that for each negative comment there are many positive opinions that don't get written in the comment area.
    Take care

  34. i hope the next week is better for you - i'll be praying for you - i think you're doing an amazing job and are a great encouragement. i was listening to a talk from mark dever the other night, and he was saying how the gospel is always going to be offensive to people because it's just not what they want to hear - but it's got to be told faithfully and then left up to god! you should have a listen if you get a moment to yourself...

  36. It's always darkest before the dawn, Danni! It's not just what we believe, but what we do - the decisions we make and the actions we take - that makes the proverb come true. It’s about realizing who you really are -- and you know YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and YOU ARE LOVED!!!

  37. Hey Danni,

We've all had those weeks. It will get better. The house hunting process is exhausting. It took nine months from offer to closing the sale on our place. And I have a friend who was in tears a few weeks ago after loosing a bidding war on what she thought was *the house*. They just had an offer accepted on a house she loves even more. When you find the place you're meant to be it will work out.

  38. know exactly how you feel about house hunting. we are in the same boat and it has been way more taxing on my emotions than i expected! so, how about a pep talk for both of us? the perfect home for you is out there and you will find it. hang in there!

  39. Oh, I hope the rest of your weekend has been a lot brighter and happier. You're lovely and amazing!

  40. Hey Danni,

We are not alone indeed. I had a rough week too and I let the burden weigh me down instead of going to the cross and letting the One I know carry it for me. Silly me.
I absolutely loved your Good Friday post and I am putting it up on my pin board. Thank you for that. I love it.
You aren't a debbie downer at all. You are a light and positive spirit in a sometimes really dark and cynical space. It's so refreshing to see that you are being authentic and you. Nobody likes discouraging comments but the dark hates light. No surprise there.
House hunting is a fun (and tiresome at times) journey and I know you and Nick will be blessed to
find the right place. Here's to a new week indeed.

  42. Thanks for posting! I had a week that felt similar, and sometimes it's just nice to see someone else out there in blogland who can be honest about stress and shortcomings and frustration, so we don't have to feel alone! (So thanks for that!) Also, I've been falling madly in love with Sarah Young's interpretation of Jesus' words in "Jesus Calling", and found today that there is a daily blog where you can read it online! http://sarahyoungdevotions.blogspot.pt/2012/04/april-15.html
