date night at the drive-in:

June 28, 2011
So a couple weeks ago, Nicholas & I headed for a little date night at the drive in theater! There is something so nostalgic and awesome about drive in theaters and I'm really glad they haven't shut this one down yet! (since all others in this area are closed) We grabbed some snacks, pillows, and blankets. Thought I'd share some pics with you!

$8.50, not bad since they feature 2 movies!

I'm not a big popcorn fan but I do like cracker jack!

So we grabbed some of our favorite snacks and some fruit.
Fruit dipped in Nutella is also good too ;)
Nutella with pretty much anything is yummy.
*Note: We didn't keep the lights on the entire time.
I just thought they were cute for pictures ;)

If you're in the orange county area, I totally recommend going to the Drive-In for a fun date night with someone special or with friends!
So that was it! We saw bridesmaids and we were going to stay for another movie but it started raining! How random is that - for June summer weather. I'm not complaining though, It was so cozy and I would have stayed in the rain but our blankets were getting all wet.
ps: Not sure how updated this site is but there's a list of drive in's by state at this website if you want to check and see if there are any in your area!
most of these photos were taken by Nicholas,
i snapped some too ;)

happy friday / thrift stores:
27
June 24, 2011

Hello! For today's Friday post, I thought I'd photograph some recent finds from my thrift store hunts. I used to shop at thrift stores all the time, before I realized there was a difference between a thrift store and an antique store. Lately though, the thrift around here has been really bad. I haven't been able to find hardly anything at thrift stores! I recently went to a couple around here and hit the jackpot ;)
I got the wire desk basket for .58 cents and the small little drawer for $1.99. I have that exact mini drawer from the antique market, but I $13 :/ Oh well, now I have 2! I found all those brass items from another thrift store for around $2-$3. I love the horse head clip. Okay, I didn't find that at a thrift store - but I still thought it was a good find so I included it. The little chess set is cool because it says "made in france" at the bottom. Got the little camera for $1 buck.

So I guess I still believe in thrift stores... if you search hard enough, you'll find some treasures amongst all the junk ;) We're in Portland for the weekend! I'm going to hit up some sales tomorrow, I'm really excited. Hope you have a sweeeeet weekend, friends!

Now it's party time! We'll all pile into these VW
campers and head out on the road!

First stop: a lovely brunch in a canoe by the waterside.

photo: ruche
Then we'll take a short ride on the serene waters and enjoy the nature.

We can eat our cake on the ride, yum.

We'll all rent these lovely (yellow) vespas!

and ride around the beautiful streets of Denmark.

and we'll stop to see the sunset, because I love sunsets! They are beautiful.

Then we'll drive over and stop for dinner in Italy, and eat at this cozy cave spot!

In my 26th year, I will live by these words of wisdom.

to end: we'll all get sparklers and end with a sparklers party! ;)

and don't think I forgot about party favors.
Everyone will take home a pocket watch necklace ;)
Hope you enjoyed this year's birthday party! Thanks for joining in! xo.

Over on Danyelle's blog, I bookmarked her "30 favorite things" birthday post and wanted to save the idea for later. She found 30 of her favorite items and did a giveaway! I decided to do something similar except I didn't find as many things as she did.. I turn 26 tomorrow so I thought it'd be a fun way to celebrate with a birthday giveaway. Thanks for the inspiration Danyelle! Here's what is in my 'favorite things' kit:
1) made by hank ruffles zipper purse.
2) my favorite pair of cut out earrings.
3) rubber stamp
4) japanese tape pack
5) vintage gold scissors
6) burt's bees lip balm
7) anthropologie gift card, for $26 ;)
8) vintage key necklace

Keys, lip balm, scissors, tape, anthropologie, ruffles, rubber stamps: pretty much sums up all the things I love!

diy - summer in a bag:

DIY - Summer in a bag: I made a few summer projects for a book submission and I'm posting the rest here ;) This is a quick & easy project. I had a friend come into town to visit so I decided to make her a little summer kit. I added a little ruffle gift tag to it but that's optional.

Here's what you need:
- Drawstring cotton bag
- Iron on paper
- "summer" items for kit (I gathered a mini block of sunscreen,
sunglasses, lip balm, a small pocket mirror, and a bottle of nailpolish!)
For gift tag:
- Cupcake wrappers
- Vintage paper & tissue
- Twine
- Shipping tag

Peel away paper to reveal your graphic!

Stuff the bag with your summer goodies!
To make gift tag:

Then, string your twine through all the layers.

Tie a knot at each side of your papers.

and you're all done! Tie gift tag onto the bag.

I said it was easy! ;)
For gift tag:
- Cupcake wrappers
- Vintage paper & tissue
- Twine
- Shipping tag

So you'll need to print your graphic, make sure you reverse it so when it irons on, it reads correctly.

Peel away paper to reveal your graphic!

Stuff the bag with your summer goodies!
To make gift tag:

So for the gift tags, I used doilies, cupcake wrappers, sewing pattern tissue, and music note sheets. Flatten out the cupcake wrappers and gather all the elements together.

Next, poke a hole through all the layers. Be careful when doing this.. I just use sharp scissors and cut through, but if you have a better method, use that!

Then, string your twine through all the layers.

Tie a knot at each side of your papers.

and you're all done! Tie gift tag onto the bag.
